#igbo must go.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo is set to engage with Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the leaders of the pan-Yoruba group Afenifere in response to a controversial ‘quit notice’ directed at Igbo residents in Lagos and other areas of the South-West. This notice, which surfaced from a post by a user named Lagospedia on July 27, demands that the Igbo community vacate the region within a month and has sparked plans for an #IgboMustGo protest scheduled from August 20 to 30.

In light of the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests, Ohanaeze Ndigbo is taking this threat seriously, fearing it could lead to violence against the Igbo in Lagos and the surrounding areas. An unnamed member of the Ime-Obi, the decision-making body of Ohanaeze, revealed that a delegation will be sent to discuss the situation with Governor Sanwo-Olu and Afenifere leaders, seeking assurances for the safety of Igbo residents.

“We are not dismissing this threat,” the source stated. “We need the Lagos Government and Afenifere leaders to ensure the safety of the Igbo in Lagos and the broader South-West.” Attempts to reach Ohanaeze spokesman Chief Alex Ogbonnia for official comments were unsuccessful. Meanwhile, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has issued a warning that any aggression towards the Igbo community will be met with resistance. National President Mazi Okwu Nnabuike stressed that the Igbo are ready to defend themselves, questioning the rationale behind their targeting despite their decision to stay out of the protests.
